Sustainability

Caring for God’s creation and respecting our fragile ecosystems are acknowledged as core elements of Christian social responsibility. Our Christian vocation calls us to take this responsibility seriously and to respond with appropriate action and lifestyle choices.

At Our Lady of Grace School we aim to foster in our students an appreciation of creation as a gift, their relationship with it and their responsibility as co-creators for its future.

We believe in continuing to maintain a clean and attractive environment that students, staff and the community can enjoy. We believe in striving to ensure everyone values, respects and cares for the natural environment. One way we can do this is by becoming a Waste Wise school and promoting a policy of:

  • Rethink
  • Reduce
  • Reuse
  • Recycle

To this end the school has taken a number of initiatives:

  • An array of 63 solar panels with a generating capacity of over 11kW
  • Through the Environmental Ministry we are involved in recycling of
    • Batteries
    • Paper
    • Food waste
  • OLG is a member of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

Through these and classroom activities our students learn about the environment, acquire attitudes of care and concern for the environment and adopt behaviours and practices which protect the environment.
